Ohio University considering tuition hike
(2007-02-08)
(WOUB) - The president of Ohio University says the school is considering a 6 percent tuition hike next year.

President Roderick McDavis says the move might be necessary to head off a potential six to eleven million dollar budget shortfall.

Officials blame the shortfall on funding cuts, lower enrollment and increased costs from health insurance, salaries and utilities.

However, vice president for finance and administration Bill Decatur says balancing the budget will mean more than just raising tuition.

A 15 member budget council is considering three different options: the six percent hike, a three percent hike or keeping the
tuition stable.

It is expected to give McDavis its recommendation by late spring so that trustees can decide by June.
