Debate continues for a free Halloween
(2007-02-06)
(WOUB) - There was lengthy debate and the vote was close but in the end, fans of a free Halloween in Athens had reason to celebrate.

Athens City Council last night rejected a plan to charge admission to the city's Halloween block party.

Supporters contend a fee is needed to defray city expenses for the event.

Opponents maintain it won't work and will cause safety problems in areas outside the party zone.

Councilmember Carol Patterson had proposed the fee and she says it's now time for someone else to step up with a plan.

Councilmember Bojinka Bishop says some folks from Ohio University will do just that.

Bishop promised a report from the group in March.
