Police: Boys escape detention, take train on joy ride
(WOUB) - Two boys are back in detention today after an early morning joy ride in a stolen train.

Police in Nelsonville in southeast Ohio say 13 year old Zachary Walden of Portsmouth and 16 year old Matthew Burks of Proctorville walked away overnight from a residential treatment home. The center director says the unlocked facility is for juveniles convicted of felonies.

Sergeant Edward Kurtz says the two broke into a building that houses rail cars for the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway, a passenger train for tourists.

They found the engine and Burks was able to start it. No cars were attached.

They rode it about 12 miles to Logan where Athens County sheriff's deputies arrested them.

They face juvenile charges of burglary, theft and escape.
