Chief says building where fire killed 7 has no sprinklers
(WOUB) - Huntington fire officials say a five-story apartment building where a weekend blaze killed at least seven people had no sprinkler system.

One victim was a child.

Fire Chief Greg Fuller says sprinklers aren't mandated by state fire code. However, smoke alarms are.

Fuller says the Huntington Fire Department is checking whether the circa 1924 building was in compliance. Several alarms were found in the building.

Two people remained missing today. Fourteen others were rescued and four of those are being treated at Cabell Huntington Hospital for smoke inhalation and burns.

The Saturday night fire was Huntington's worst in nearly 50 years.

City Fire Marshal David Bias says it could take days to identify the cause.
