New Ohio governor takes oath in public ceremony
(WOUB) - Ohio Governor Ted Strickland used his inaugural address Saturday to call for an end to partisan politics and to urge lawmakers to improve public education.

The Democrat was publicly sworn in as the state's 68th governor during a ceremony on the west lawn of the Statehouse.

Strickland actually took office Monday, but today was the day for official ceremonies.

Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Moyer administered the oath, and former astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn hosted the event.

An inaugural ball will be held tonight at the state fairgrounds in Columbus.

Cost of the inaugural festivities is about $1 million. Banks, insurance companies and law firms chipped in thousands of dollars to underwrite the celebration. Amounts given by each donor will be released next week.
