Explosion at electric plant kills one, injures about dozen
(2007-01-08)
(WOUB) - The sheriff says one person has died in an explosion at an American Electric Power plant in southeast Ohio's Washington County.

Sheriff Larry Mincks says about a dozen people were injured in the blast, which occurred while a truck was making a delivery to the electric plant in Beverly.

A spokeswoman for AEP says workers were unloading hydrogen, but it's not clear what exploded. She says hydrogen is used to cool steam generators at the coal-burning plant along the Muskingum River.
