Prosecutors: Ney's corruption larger than he admits
(WOUB) - At his sentencing scheduled for the 19th, former Ohio Congressman Bob Ney is facing at least two years in prison, but prosecutors want a harsher sentence.

They say the Republican was at the center of a wider conspiracy that sold congressional services for cash.

Ney pleaded guilty in October to federal corruption charges, admitting that he traded his influence for expensive trips and other gifts from lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

In court papers filed this week, federal prosecutors describe a web of associates who put a price on various government acts by Ney. For example, they say for 50-thousand dollars in casino chips, the lawmaker contacted the State Department on behalf of a foreign businessman.
