Working towards earlier genetic testing
But one group based in Michigan is working to test embryos as early as possible in an effort to contain genetic diseases.
The Genesis Genetics Institute and works with genetic diagnosis to figure out why women have miscarriages and how to avoid genetic diseases.
Mark Hughes, the director of the Institute, has been working with the group for nineteen years and says he has helped thousands of families give birth to healthy children.
He says, "People are screened. If they have a child already with it, they know this can happen again. They're frightful it could happen again, and they're looking for an alternative to throwing the genetic dice and getting pregnant and finding out they have a baby with a very serious, sometimes lethal genetic condition."
Hughes' organization runs clinics in many parts of the world including Michigan, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Brazil, and Taiwan.
