Court Street surveillance cameras ATHENS, OH (WOUB) - Athens City Council is going to study the placement of surveillance cameras on Court Street and elsewhere downtown.

The request to do so came last night from City Law Director Pat Lang.

Lang says the cameras are legal and may make the area safer, but their use raises personal liberty and constitutional questions.

Mayor Paul Wiehl says the cameras are used by the Athens Police Department.

The surveillance camera issue will be discussed by Athens City Council's Committee of the Whole.
