OU Prof Talks Binge Drinking on NPR ATHENS, OH (WOUB) - Ohio University professor Thomas Vander Ven was a guest on NPR's "Talk of the Nation" yesterday, talking about binge drinking among college students.

Vander Ven was interviewed about his new book -- Getting Wasted: Why College Students Drink Too Much and Party So Hard.

Vander Ven is an anthropologist and sociologist.

He spent seven years asking kids to explain why they drink so much.

In his research he found that students are drinking in groups and they help each other out and mange their drinking episodes.
