Investigators Request Info from State Agencies
Manchin's office confirmed Friday that state officials received a pair of grand jury subpoenas this week, but they have no information that the governor or any other state employee is under investigation.
Dwane Tinsley, a Charleston lawyer, says the subpoenas seek documents from the Department of Administration and the Division of Highways. Tinsley says he has been appointed special assistant attorney general to represent the agencies. He says the subpoenas did not name any individuals or request testimony.
Manchin is a 62-year-old Democrat running in this fall's special election for the U.S. Senate seat of the late Robert C. Byrd.
