Farming Lansing
(2010-05-16)
(Associated Press) - A half-acre of vacant land on Lansing's east side is about to become the Michigan capital's pioneering urban farm, with help from two Michigan State University faculty members.

The Urbandale Farm Project is the first effort of the Lansing Urban Farm Project, co-founded by Laura DeLind and Linda Anderson.

University spokeswoman Kristen Parker says area residents, students and volunteers from the federal volunteer program AmeriCorps will maintain the farm.

DeLind is an academic specialist in the Department of Anthropology and a visiting assistant professor in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities. Anderson is a professor emerita of teacher education.

A farmer will supervise the work.
