Each year thousands of people take part in what is called Living History.
Local author AJ Hamler is among those ranks.
His newest book combines some of his passions, Civil War re-enactment and woodwork.
It's called "Civil War Woodworking" and is available now.
He says he put in a year's worth of work to make the book accurate.
He says his book is the only Civil War book to cover woodworking.
