McDavis e-mails warning
(2009-07-03)
(WOUB) - Ohio University's president is warning faculty and staff that the university is not out of the woods yet when it comes to the state budget.

In an e-mail, Roderick McDavis says that even though Ohio Governor Ted Strickland and lawmakers are big supporters of higher education, state budget negotiations going on in Columbus could result in cuts that would affect OU's recently passed 2010 budget.

Lawmakers are working to figure out how to plug a $3.2 billion hole in the state's two year budget.

McDavis says university administrators have reason to believe that State Share of Instruction appropriations could be reduced for fiscal year 2010 and fiscal year 2011.

However, he says that the university community has done a good job strengthening the university's ability to deal with such a reduction through enrollment gains and efficiency.

He asks faculty and staff to continue to manage funds wisely and slow spending.
