Ohio Highway Patrol Fires 12 in Cheating Scandal
scandal have been fired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Patrol spokesman Lt. Tony Bradshaw says it's the first time in the agency's 75-year history that so many officers have been let go at once.
The patrol said the three sergeants and eight troopers from the Canton post and one Wooster trooper cheated on a certification exam for administering breath tests on suspected drunken drivers.
The 12 were placed on paid leave last month and the patrol recommended their dismissal. They were fired Monday when Ohio Director of Public Safety Henry Guzman agreed.
Bradshaw says the officers may appeal to an arbitrator.
Meanwhile, prosecutors say some drunken driving cases involving the officers are being reopened.
