Oldest Columbus Area Movie Theater Closing
Thursday marks the 82nd anniversary of the Drexel Grandview, whose owner announced a day earlier that the place will close Sept. 27 because it's too difficult to keep a single-screen theater going in the age of multiplexes.
Jeff Frank, who also manages the cinema, says he wanted to buy the building from his landlord and add more screens, but she wouldn't sell.
Property owner Virginia Stoltz says she has no plans for the theater, which in recent years has featured independent and art films.
