Ohio's Mandatory Sick Leave Effort Ends
(2008-09-04)
(wosu) - Ohio voters will not get the chance to vote for a mandatory sick leave proposal. The group pushing the sick leave issue has asked that the issue be taken off the ballot.

The measure, if approved would have mandated most Ohio companies provide 7 paid sick days to each employee each year. But Democratic governor Ted Strickland and Republican leaders said the mandate would hurt the state's economy.

Leaders of the sick leave campaign say they are giving up their fight because Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama promises to work for a federal mandatory sick leave law.

Governor Strickland and Democratic US Senator Sherrod Brown have promised to work for the federal law.
