Teen Runaway Back in Columbus

COLUMBUS, OH (wosu) - The Columbus teenager who ran away to Florida this summer after converting to Christianity from Islam is back in Ohio. WOSU reports Rifqua Bary returned to Columbus Tuesday.

An attorney for the Rifqa Bary's parents, Shayan Elahi, says the 17-year-old northside resident is in the care of Franklin County Children's Services. At the request of children's services, Juvenile Magistrate Mary Goodrich ordered Bary's phone and internet usage be monitored. An attorney for the agency said the internet caused part of Bary's circumstances. An attorney representing Bary opposed the request saying family problems led to the conflict.

Bary said her father, Mohammed Bary, threatened to kill her when he found out she converted from Islam to Christianity. Mohammed Bary has denied the threats.
