New Poll Indicates Budget Stalemate is Taking a Toll on Popularity of Governor and State Lawmakers
(2009-07-03)
(wosu) - The Quinnipiac University poll released Friday shows voters support Governor Ted Strickland's proposal to place slot machines at racetracks around the state.

But the poll finds an even larger majority believes voters should decide the issue in a referendum instead of leaving the decision to the state legislature. Strickland said again Thursday he believes the people elected him and state lawmakers to deal with the budget crisis, and the slot machine proposal is the best way to do that.

The budget stalemate is taking a toll on Strickland's popularity and that of state lawmakers. The Quinnipiac poll says Strickland has his lowest approval rating since taking office. And 49% of voters disapprove of the job the state legislature is doing.
