Board of Elections Rejects Ballot Mailings.
(2009-07-02)
(wosu) - The Franklin County Board of Elections decided Wednesday not to mail absentee ballot applications to all active voters prior to the August 4th special election. The board had been deadlocked on the issue since May.

The four member board was evenly split along party lines. In May the two Republicans voted to send applications to all active voters prior to the August 4th election. The two Democrats voted against the plan. Wednesday afternoon, the board voted unanimously not to send applications to every voter. Michael Stinziano is the director of the Franklin County Board of Elections:

"The board has chosen not to send unsolicited absentee ballot applications," Stinziano says. "I think it was noted that it is a good practice and policy but given the late hour in the day before the special election not to pursue it this time. So if someone wants to vote absentee they need to mail us an absentee ballot application and then we'll get them their absentee ballot."

Absentee ballot applications can be downloaded from the Franklin County Board of Elections website. The address is vote.franklincountyohio.gov
