007 Gets a Mixed Review WOSU Film Critics Joyce and Rico Long review "Quantum of Solace."

RICO LONG GIVES "QUANTUM OF SOLACE" 4 STARS

Action film? Think of the two new James Bond films. Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. In this one 007 has become suspect regarding his loyalty to MI6.
The new "Bond girl", Camille is played by Olga Kurylenko. She leads him to the villain of the piece, Mr. Greene, who looked familiar. Finally, it came to me - he was the star of "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." The paralyzed Frenchman, played by Mathieu Amalric.
As in all the films of this genre, the locations are all over the world. The action is intense. One must wonder how they can come up with fresh ideas to imperil the hero. Somehow, they surely do. It's so over the top that I found myself loving it.
Sean Connery is who I think of first, but Daniel Craig comes to mind very quickly. His stunts are incredible - but he does many himself and has the scars to prove it.
Very enjoyable! It wouldn't do to reveal much of what goes on, so I won't.
JOYCE LONG GIVES "QUANTUM OF SOLACE" 2 STARS

There are three different kinds of chases in the first few minutes of Quantum. Action junkies, which I am not, get all they can handle.
Frankly, I didn't quite understand a lot of it for quite awhile, though Almaric was a dastardly villain. And the women are always gorgeous.
This time I was quite disappointed, since I rather liked "Casino Royale" and Daniel Craig. But the entire film seemed so cold blooded, so over the top, with no humor and so many action exploits, it was absolutely numbing!
The only sympathetic character was an old enemy of Bond's, played delightfully by Giancarlo Giannini.
