"Outreach" at OSU
WOSU Theater Critic Joy Reilly talks with Outreach Program Director Robin Post about a new student program.

by Joy Reilly

"Outreach" is an emerging program at Ohio State University in which the tools of theater are used to understand current social issues.

For example, students might join with cancer patients in a theatrical setting to examine the issues facing survivors.

Program Director Robin Post says students can enter the program through an audition or interview.

Either way, she tells WOSU Theater Critic Joy Reilly they must have a commitment to social issues.

Post says the class tackles very personal issues for some students. The goal is to find a way to talk about things without getting upset or aggressive. They focus on a thoughtful dialogues.

Post says "Outreach" is a "safe space" for students.

Outreach performs next on Tuesday, May 20th at the Younkins Success Center at Ohio State.
