MOVIES
This documentary gives us a close-up look at three famous guitarists,
The Edge of U-2 fame, Jimmy Page of Lead Zeppelin, and Jack White of The White Stripes.
Joyce: These are the descendants of Les Paul, who recently died, and was the father of the electric guitar. His legacy is strongly built on by these electric guitar masters. They all seem to be quite likable too.
Rico: We learn how each virtuoso developed and mastered his unique sound.
We see them individually as soloists and together in a wonderful jam session. It's great to see their mutual respect.
Joyce: We visit the locations where each made their mark. Not being particularly an electric guitar fan and though sometimes the music seemed an assault on my ears, I did find it quite interesting seeing the differences between the three.
Rico: You don't have to be a guitarist to fully enjoy the film, but it will certainly change and enhance your listening experience. I can't say that I'm an aficionado, but I really dug it.
It's always a great experience to see, or in this case, hear someone who is really great at what they do.
Joyce: Though I don't often appreciate the music, I certainly appreciate the skill it demands. I must say I also found it sometimes hard to follow, what with the flash backs, etc. It often confused me. Plus I found it way too long. But young people won't. They'll really like it.
Rico: It Might Get Loud gets beyond the typical "concert" film, and takes us backstage and into their personal lives. It's right up there with the films "Metallica" and "Anvil: The Story of Anvil" which we reviewed this year.
Enjoy the Rock and widen your horizons. See "It Might Get Loud" and prepare yourself for some fun.
***1/2 and a green light.
Joyce: I'm afraid for me, less would have been more.
