This American Life For a long time, This American Life was only a radio show, one with a hard-to-describe sound, millions of listeners, and a bunch of awards. Then, after more than a decade on the radio, we started the television show, mostly because it seemed like it might be fun. We continue to produce the weekly radio show, which can be heard on more than 500 public radio stations around the country. |

On The Media On the Media explores how the media "sausage" is made, casts an incisive eye on fluctuations in the marketplace of ideas, and examines threats to the freedom of information and expression in America and abroad. For one hour a week, the show tries to lift the veil from the process of "making media," especially news media, because it's through that lens that we literally see the world and the world sees us. |

1:00 pm | On Point Hosted by Tom Ashbrook Each hour of "On Point" examines a single topic from a wide range of subjects and features interviews with newsmakers, artists, scientists, and ordinary citizens with compelling stories from around the world. |
This American Life Ira Glass Instead, we do these stories that are like movies for radio. There are people in dramatic situations where things happen to them. There are funny moments and emotional moments and ¿ hopefully ¿ moments where the people in the story say interesting, surprising things about it all. It has to be surprising. It has to be fun. There are shows on public radio with no sense of fun or surprise and we hate those shows.
