During the month of April Just Jazz host Bob Bernotas will feature the music of his Artist of the Month, pianist Red Garland.

Known for his encyclopedic knowledge of songs, pianist Red Garland (1923-1984) was a key member of Miles Davis' classic quintet and sextet from 1955 to 1958, and one of the most widely recorded jazz musicians of his time. As a leader he made nineteen albums for Prestige from the mid 1950s to the early 1960s, and at the head of the label's house rhythm section he appeared on scores of dates with many of the era's leading jazz artists. Subtle, blues-based, and ever swinging, Garland's playing was distinguished by his light touch and rich block chords, and is immediately recognizable.
