Concert Review by Melanie Thiel: Oh What A Night!
Dr. John opening for the Neville Brothers Saturday February 13, 2010; the Wellmont Theatre, Montclair, NJ

Oh What A Night! Dr. John opening for the Neville Brothers.

It's been at least 18 years since I've been to downtown Montclair. The landscape had changed a great deal and all for the better. Restaurants and boutique shops line Bloomfield Ave. and the rebirth of the Wellmont Theatre. Parking was no problem with city lots on every side street.

Every seat in the house is a good one and no one went home disappointed. I've seen Dr. John many times but this was by far the best show. Dressed to kill and looking like a million dollars, backstage as well as in front of the house, the good Dr. was a complete showman.

If that wasn't enough, next came the Neville Brothers. No flash, no fancy dance moves, just pure, soulful, unbelievable music! The highlight of their performance for me was Aaron singing "Yellow Moon" with brother Charles (saxophonist) next to him signing the words. I never knew sign language could be so sexy!

My stadium concert days are over. Give me an intimate setting like the Wellmont Theatre any day!
