TR3 at Triumph Brewery, New Hope, PA 11/10/09
If a music fan recognizes the name Tim Reynolds it is most likely familiar from his work as the supporting guitarist for Dave Matthews. The sell out crowd at Triumph Brewery on Wednesday night was anxious for a show they knew would be completely different. The Tim Reynolds Trio(TR3) gave them what they came for and then some.
With Mick Vaughn on bass and Dan Martier on drums, guitar virtuoso Tim Reynolds has put together a powerful three man band whose rock solid backbeat rhythms rival the early days of Gov't Mule. Don't expect any Dave Matthews covers either. You won't get them, but once you hear what these three have to offer you won't be disappointed.
Mick Vaughn, Toxic Pooh and Tim
Reynolds of Tim Reynolds Trio (TR3)
They rocked the tops right off of Triumph's beer vats one song after another, from their own original songs to James Brown's "Sex Machine," when they were joined by a life size dancing Elmo and Toxic Pooh in a gas mask, a giant James Brown bobblehead taking center stage. During one song all of the lights dropped and the band flipped on their blue light beam glasses, menacing the crowd like blue-eyed Jawas from Star Wars with music and light. TR3 is a whole different animal from what Reynolds does with Dave Matthews.
Tim's versatility on guitar, the vocal abilities of he and his band mates, the wickedly funky bass of Mick Vaughn and the superlative drumming style of Dan Martier combine to create something much greater than the sum of it's parts. They play with a hard rock edge, and their music has a fresh raw grittiness to it that is both refreshing and organic. These three guys love playing together and you can feel their comraderie and the fun they are having on stage in the music they play.
Go see TR3. Don't expect acoustic fingerstyle wizardry. Expect to be blown away by an incredibly kick ass rock trio. You will not be disappointed. I guarantee.
