Keith Andes also starred opposite Lucille Ball in the Broadway musical Wildcat in 1960, and later appeared on her 1960s sitcom, The Lucy Show. His career spanned three decades, appearing in episodes of Cannon, Death Valley Days, Daniel Boone, I Spy, The Andy Griffith Show, Star Trek (in the episode, The Apple). His work included voice acting in the animated Birdman and the Galaxy Trio (1967).Late in life, he appeared in films such as ...And Justice for All and Tora! Tora! Tora! (about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor).
As a teenager, Mark was an early member of Canned Heat, but left before the band was signed. Andes was a founding member of the band Spirit. He played bass on their first four albums and on some subsequent reunion albums. Spirit was noted for its hybrid sound of rock, jazz and psychedelic styles. The group released groundbreaking works such as Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus(1970), critically acclaimed but not a big seller at the time of it's release. Spirit's lack of commercial success could be attributed to bad luck and timing plus some unfortunate promotional decisions, rather then the strength of their material. Spirit had the opportunity to play the slot before Jimi Hendrix at the Woodstock festival in 1969. Management turned it down and chose to do a radio tour instead. As a result of the bands inability to capture commercial success the original line-up of Spirit broke-up in 1971. Spirit band mate Jay Ferguson and Andes formed the band Jo Jo Gunne. He recruited his brother, Matt Andes, to play guitar.
Mark only recorded one album with Jo Jo Gunne before semi-retiring from music around 1972. During his stay, the band had a Top 40 hit with the song "Run, Run, Run".
Mark became a founding member of Firefall around 1975 after moving to Colorado. In the years to follow Mark would join the band Heart prior to their re-emergence as headliners. Mark would be found either recording or touring with and sometimes arranging or producing artists Stevie Nicks, Whitesnake, Joe Walsh, Dan Fogleberg, Kim Carnes, Alenjandro Escovedo and several others along with a few reunions with Spirit and JoJo Gunne as he passed from Colorado to Taos NM and to his present home Austin Texas. Mark has been playing bass in Ian Mclagan's Bump Band the last four years while engaging in projects with the super talented artist colony that resides in Austin.Mark is currently playing with the Ian Mclagan Bump Band.
