Rare and Unseen: The Beatles
Rare and Unseen: The Beatles This is one of those 'unofficial accounts' of the Beatles told documentary style. It includes rare home films and private photos of the Beatles, newsreels, and concert footage, some previously unseen. Some of the rare film includes Mickey Jones' home movies of The Beatles at The Olympia Theatre in January 1964, one month before the lads conquered America. Jones was the drummer for Trini Lopez, who opened for The Beatles at The Olympia Theatre.
The only known footage of the Beatles in Scotland is presented here, taken from Caird Hall in Dundee Scotland in October 1964. Other highlights include excerpts from a John Lennon interview done for French Television in 1974. Perhaps the coolest treat for long time Beatles fans is the earliest known footage of the Beatles filmed in February 1962 in Liverpool! This is color footage of pre-Brian Epstein Beatles. John can be seen chewing gum on stage which, of course, became a no-no when Epstein became their manager.
The DVD is chock full of interviews with many who were there in the beginning. Phil Collins, Steve Harley, Norman' Hurricane' Smith, Gerry Marsden, Tony Barrow, and Colin Hanton (first Drummer for The Quarrymen) are just a few who appear on camera.
'Rare and Unseen' breaks no new ground when discussing the Beatles early days or there impact on the world at wide. But it is the rare footage that is here that make this a must for hard core Beatles fans.
"We don't die completely until the last person on earth who remembers us has also died."
- John Lennon
