'With a little something for fans of nearly every kind of popular music...'

Best Music Writing 2009

Each year Da Capo Press releases a book that the Boston Phoenix calls "A compendium that's become, next to free Radiohead tickets, the rock critic's highest professional honor." 'Best Music Writing 2009' collects essays, blogs, liner notes, profiles, news articles, fiction, non-fiction, book reviews and even six-word reviews (Aidin Vaziri on the Guns N' Roses CD 'Chinese Democracy,' "It's a bit overproduced, isn't it?"), on a wide range of topics within the music genre.

Among those writers contributing are: Rosanne Cash, Stanley Booth, Carrie Brownstein, David Ramsey. In total there are 31 writers whose passion lies within these pages. One of the short pieces I really enjoyed was 'Researchers Play Tune before Edison' by Judy Rosen and originally printed in The New York Times.

This is the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Best Music Writing series of books. It seems appropriate that Greil Marcus, one of our finest musical writers, should serve as Guest editor for 2009. Previous Guest Editors have included Mickey Hart, Peter Guralnick, Nelson George, Nick Hornby, and Robert Christgau. From Rock and Hip-Hop to Blues, Jazz, Pop, and R&B, Best Music Writing 2009 presents the finest musical writing from this turbulent year.

"With a little something for fans of nearly every kind of popular music, this is one of the best omnibuses of incisive writing about Pop music." - Booklist
