Book Review by Scott Acton: Sealing Their Fate: The Twenty-two Days That Decided World War II<br />
'...a fresh and unique perspective on three crucial weeks, Nov. 17 - Dec. 8, 1941 - WW II'

Sealing Their Fate: The Twenty-two Days That Decided World War II Author David Downing gives us a fresh and unique perspective on three crucial weeks, November 17 thru December 8, 1941. Events in Africa, Russia, and the Pacific would eventually determine the outcome of World War II.

'Sealing Their Fate' contends that the pivotal actions took place early in the War, before the United States declared war on both Japan and Germany. Each chapter is structured around one of these crucial twenty-two days in 1941. The story shifts from the frozen tundra of Russia, to the northern African desert, and to the Pacific where the Japanese launched their sneak attack on Malaya, The Philippines, and Pearl Harbor.

The monumental mistakes made by both the Axis and Allies, prove that World War II was not won with overwhelming manpower or skill... but lost by governments that failed to see a clear picture of future events. How did Hitler allow his troops to invade Russia without proper winter clothing and without enough food and supplies? How could Japan allow its military to attack a super industrial power like the United States? Why was General MacArthur so blind to the imminent Japanese threat to the Philippines? These questionable decisions and others are dealt with in this fine book.

Two-thirds of the approximately 50 million people who died in World War II would do so after Japans' attack on Pearl Harbor. So many killed and so many lives ruined. World War II was the defining moment of the 20th century. May we all pray that we never see the likes of another global conflict that almost destroyed civilization.
