Sun., February 14, 2010 / 10 pm-3 am
"Carnaval" is the annual festival held in Brazil during the four days before Ash Wednesday, the day of fasting and repentance that marks the beginning of Lent in the Roman Catholic calendar. Brazilian Carnaval is characterized by scores of festive parades filled with elaborate floats and stunning costumes, intense competitions among the dancing perfumers of the many "samba schools," and uninhibited public revelry.
On Sunday, February 14, Bob Bernotas will celebrate Carnaval on his weekly Just Jazz program with five full hours of Brazilian jazz from 10 pm to 3 am Eastern Time (US).
And as a special bonus, for the first two hour of this year's "Just Jazz Carnaval Special" Bob will be joined in the studio by a special guest co-host, trumpeter Claudio Roditi, a master of samba, bossa nova, and straight-ahead jazz. They will be playing and talking about many classic Brazilian jazz recordings, including Claudio's own 2009 Grammy-nominated CD, Brazilliance x 4 (Resonance Records). They'll also be premiering Claudio's new February 2010 Resonance Records release, Simpatico.
