The ballot for next year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class is one of the most diverse ever: the Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Kiss and Genesis are up for nomination alongside the Stooges, Donna Summer, ABBA, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, the Chantels, the Hollies and Jimmy Cliff. Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their debut release, so all the candidates released their first single no later than 1984. LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers both made the ballot on their first year of eligibility.

On November 24th, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will release their career-spanning The Live Anthology, a four-disc set that features some of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers' best onstage performances from 1978 to 2007. Anthology will feature no overdubs and a 48-song track list. In addition to the band's own hits, The Live Anthology also finds the Heartbreakers covering The theme from Goldfinger, the Zombies' "I Want You Back Again," the Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil," early Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well," Booker T. and the MGs' "Green Onions," James Brown's "Good, Good Lovin'" and many more.

Former R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry reunited with Mike Mills and Peter Buck onstage in Athens the other night.
Comedian and radio personality Artie Lange has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of a habit-producing drug in a minor traffic accident in New Jersey. The 41-year-old Lange was charged following the July 10 accident in Toms River, about 40 miles southeast of Trenton. He entered his plea Wednesday in municipal court. Judge James Ligouri revoked his driving privileges for seven months.
AC/DC are set to release their Backtracks album on November 10 in both standard and deluxe editions. The album will serve as a retrospective of the band's 36-year career. It will include studio and live renditions of some of AC/DC's most well-known songs. The standard edition will feature two CDs of studio and live performances, as well as a Family Jewels 3 DVD and a bonus video. The deluxe edition will feature a third CD and a second DVD.
Bob Dylan, one-time voice of a generation, is allegedly mulling offers to become the voice of satellite navigational devices. The default for GPS audio is anonymous and generic, but celebrities like Dennis Hopper and Mr. T have recorded alternative tracks.
Earlier this summer, Paul McCartney christened Citi Field, the new home of the New York Mets, with a sold-out three-night stand in Flushing, Queens. Those shows will be the focus of an upcoming 2CD/1DVD set titled Good Evening New York City. Each night's 33-song, two-hour-and-40-minute hits-filled set was filmed with 15 high-definition cameras, plus an additional 75 flipcams were distributed to the audience to capture all angles of McCartney's performance. Good Evening New York City will be released on November 17th via Hear Music.
