Kenny Rankin, a brilliant pop vocalist and highly regarded musician-songwriter whose stylings ranged from jazz to pop to the world music influences he picked up as a child in New York, has died of complications related to lung cancer, his record company announced Monday. He was 69.

O'Brien's overnight numbers have declined with each of its six telecasts following his big bow as host of the longtime late night leader June 1. At the same time, David Letterman's "Late Show" on CBS has been picking up steam by piling up big-name guests after lying relatively low for a while. End result is that on Tuesday -- for the first time in their seven head-to-head matchups -- Letterman appears to have drawn more viewers than O'Brien.
Picasso, Monet ... Tim Burton? The visually inventive filmmaker behind "Edward Scissorhands," "Batman" and "Sweeney Todd," among others, will be the subject of "Tim Burton," a major exhibition at Gotham's Museum of Modern Art beginning Nov. 22 and running through April 26. The show will include more than 700 pieces: paintings, drawings, storyboards, puppets and other work created or designed by Burton. The exhibition follows Burton from childhood through his most recent work, which the director finds appropriate: "Everybody draws," Burton observed. "I just never stopped when the teachers told me to."
