The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation co-sponsored by Congressman Bart Stupak to remove rogue pharmacies operating on the internet. In addition, the legislation would protect the safety of consumers who do fill legitimate prescriptions online. The bill would include; barring the sale or distribution of all controlled substances on the internet without a valid prescription, requiring online pharmacies to display information identifying businesses, and clarifying that pharmacies that continue to operate outside the law will be governed by the current federal penalties against illegal distributions.
