Rural Development Program awards funds to five U.P. areas
The City of Norway will use $13,000 to purchase a new police vehicle; Luce County has been given $15,000 for a new patrol/transport van and related equipment; Portage Township was awarded $40,000 for a new ambulance and equipment; the Village of Baraga will purchase a new police car with its $19,000; and Bay Mills Community College has been given $272,350 to pave parking lots on its west campus, demolish and remove old dorms, install a new drain field, and acquire new school vehicles.

The USDA has awarded nearly $359,000 to five Upper Peninsula communities. Given through the Rural Development Program, the money aims to help municipalities improve services to rural residents.
