National Recovery Month observed at NMU
(2008-09-23)
(wnmu) - Northern Michigan University is observing September as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Health Promotions Specialist Lenny Shible says it's an opportunity for communities and campuses to focus on the accomplishments of those who have chosen to move away from abusing alcohol and other drugs. He says it's also a way to recognize the professionals and volunteers who work in recovery programs.

Shible says people need to realize how widespread addiction is. He says almost everyone is affected by it, either through their families or friends. Shible notes Recovery Month is a chance for residents to make a difference in their own communities.

NMU's Health Promotions Office along with Great Lakes Recovery Center and Pathways Substance Abuse Services are holding a run-walk to benefit local services. The event takes place Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Presque Isle Pavilion in Marquette. For more information, call 227-1455.
