Stupak says Great Lakes Compact not ready for approval
Stupak says the current measure would allow bottled water to be shipped from the region. He also questions if labeling Great Lakes water as a federal 'product' would subject it to international trade law obligations. And he questions if actions taken by Great Lakes states to restrict privatization efforts by international entities would ever be subject to claims under the General Agreement on Tariffs or the World Trade Organization.
The House is expected to vote on the compact Tuesday.
