Brownfield Redevelopment Financing Authority will be resurrected
(2008-09-22)
(wnmu) - The City of Marquette is seeking applicants for the Brownfield Redevelopment Financing Authority. Brownfields are areas previously used for industrial or commercial purposes that may be contaminated as a result. In 1997 the entire City of Marquette was designated as a brownfield. The authority that was established in 1998 will be resurrected after several years of inactivity. The decision to revive the authority is due to a possible brownfield assessment grant available for the city. Brownfield redevelopment zones promote the revitalization of environmentally distressed areas.
The authority will have seven directors each serving three-year terms. Candidates for the Brownfield Redevelopment Financing Authority should have an understanding of environmental issues and a willingness to serve the community. The Mayor and City Commission will make the final appointments to the authority.
