Tech Smart Zone gets grant
Officials say the money is expected to create 355 jobs and leverage $5.1 million in private investment.

Michigan Technological University has received federal money for its Smart Zone High-Tech Business Incubator program. The $3,020,000 grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration. It will be used to purchase the old UPPCO building in Houghton, which will house a new business incubator tailored for high-tech tenants and startup businesses. Officials say the money is expected to create 355 jobs and leverage $5.1 million in private investment.
