A Houghton County deputy is recovering from a gunshot wound, after a fatal shooting in Osceola Township on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at a residence in Tamarack location. The deputy, Mark Butkovich, was called to the scene for a neighborhood dispute when he was attacked by 41-year-old Dan Bailey, who was wielding a golf club. Butkovich tried to get into his patrol car, but Bailey struck him repeatedly and knocked him to the ground. Butkovich shot Bailey several times, and one of the bullets hit Butkovich's right ankle. He was treated and released from the hospital Thursday.
