Names of cemetery vandals released
(2008-09-18)
(wnmu) - The names of three people accused of vandalizing a Menominee County cemetery have been released. Troopers from the Stephenson post say the incident occurred Monday at the Nadeau Township Cemetery. A total of 23 tombstones were pushed over, several statues and flower arrangements were damaged, and about 20 American flags were damaged and thrown on the ground.

Arrested were 17-year-old Derek Ecker of Spread Eagle, Wisconsin, 18-year-old Scott Haanpaa of Iron Mountain, and 18-year-old Devin Carley of Norway. All three remain lodged in the Menominee County Jail on one count each of Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,000. Haanpaa is also charged with Desecration of an American Flag. A preliminary exam is scheduled for next Thursday in Circuit Court.

A juvenile female was also arrested in connection with the incident. She was released to her parents, and a court date is pending.
