School wins award
Superintendent Denny Chartier says the program trains parents of Title I students to reinforce language skills throughout the summer months, when their kids aren't in school. He says the award is a singular accomplishment, in that the Iron Mountain district is the only one in the U.P. to receive the award.
Title I teachers in the district applied for the award, and won regional and state honors. A total of nine Michigan school districts were given the award.
