Coalition applauds Stupak copper legislation
Stupak's bill requires metal dealers to document the transaction, and bans cash transactions of more than $500 for scrap copper. The price of copper has been steadily rising--from around $2.00 a pound in mid-2006 to more than $4.00 per pound in mid-2008.
The coalition says if passed, the bill would save businesses and homeowners thousands of dollars.

The Coalition Against Copper Theft says the crime is a growing trend in the U.S. that affects home and business owners, jeopardizes critical infrastructure, and further endangers the real estate market.
