Huron Island Refuge closed temporarily
(2008-09-08)
(wnmu) - The Huron Island National Wildlife Refuge in Lake Superior is closed until further notice. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says public access and use is temporarily prohibited at the eight islands three miles off the shore between Huron Bay and Big Bay because of a deteriorated dock. Normally, only Lighthouse Island is open for public use. The service has hired a contractor to replace the dock at the island, and boaters are being asked to stay a safe distance away from construction activity. The refuge will be re-opened once the dock is finished. © Copyright 2009, wnmu
