Plane accident cuts power to Newberry
(2008-09-08)
LUCE COUNTY, MI
(wnmu) -
An airplane accident cut power to a Luce County community over the weekend. Troopers from the Newberry post say the incident occurred Friday around 5:20 p.m. near the Luce County Airport. A small, fixed-wing aircraft piloted by Rebecca Prior of Eau Claire, Wisconsin was attempting to land at the airport when Prior became disoriented by sunlight in her eyes. She unintentionally tried to land the plane at the Luce County Industrial Park on County Road 403 and County Road 392. The aircraft struck overhead power lines, cutting electricity to the Village of Newberry and surrounding area. Prior realized her mistake, aborted the landing, and circled back to the airport. The plane landed without further incident. The accident caused damage to the tail and prop of the aircraft, and remains under investigation.
