NMU hosts Education Summit MARQUETTE, MI (wnmu) - Lawmakers and educators spoke about the future of Michigan's schools at the 12th Annual Upper Peninsula Education Legislative Summit at Northern Michigan University. Friday's summit focused on children's education and how to solve some of the problems they face.

One of the key speakers at the event was Mike Flanagan, Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Michigan Department of Education. Flanagan said officials need to prepare for the technological future of education, which includes online courses. Michigan Lieutenant Governor John Cherry said the state's economic future depends on excellent education.

The summit included open comments and questions from those who attended, as well as various workshops about today's education and how to improve it.
