Two universities collaborate on sleep studies
(2008-09-05)
(wnmu) - The University of Michigan and Michigan Technological University have joined together to research sleep disorders. The studies include monitoring patients while they sleep and recording brain activity, muscle activity, and eye activity to better understand sleeping disorders. Joseph Burns is a Senior Research Scientist at Michigan Tech's Research Institute in Ann Arbor. He says he has been working with the Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at
Uof M, Dr. Ronald Chervin on coming up with methods to analyze and treat sleeping conditions. Burns adds that the technology being used now may make it possible someday to allow sleep disorder patients to participate in sleep studies in their own homes.
