Michigan Tech starts new safety program
(2008-09-03)
(wnmu) - Michigan Technological University has initiated a new safety program. The program, called "Safety First Alert" allows the university to send emergency e-mails, telephone calls, and text messages to students, faculty, and staff in the case of a crisis on-campus. Les Cook is the Vice President of Student Affairs at Michigan Tech. He says they are taking alert systems much more seriously since the Virginia Tech tragedy. Cook says e-mails have been sent to students and staff to sign up for the program as well as e-mails to parents. Cook adds that while campus-wide sirens are being updated they will be used primarily for students out on-campus, with other specific alarms used for students in the classroom.
