Keweenaw Park awards grants
(2008-08-29)
(wnmu) - The National Park Service at Keweenaw National Historical Park has awarded 10 grants. The grants total $30,000 and are going to fund a wide variety of projects including stabilization and rehabilitation of historical structures, emergency safety ladders in copper mines, and rehabilitation of private residents exteriors. Tom Baker is the park's Management Assistant. He says there was one main goal in awarding the grants which was the preservation of historical resources. Baker added that in order for applicants to receive the money they first had to meet certain requirements. Those requirements included... owners of historical property had to be within the boundaries of the park, owners will have to provide public access to the historical property when the project is finished, and applicants had to meet a 4 to 1 match in funds, which meant paying 4 non federal dollars for every federal dollar.
